We are an independent auction house specialising in Maritime Art, Models, Artefacts and Scientific Instruments. We generally run two catalogue sales a year in Spring and Autumn, with a timed sale a month later which contains late, lower value or unsold lots from the catalogue sale, thus providing a quicker turnaround for unplaced lots. Special one-off sales are occasionally organised for dedicated collections of a suitable size and value. Our catalogues are designed to serve as works of reference and are subscribed to by several international museums as well as distinguished collectors and those who just enjoy a good read – where possible, all lots are supported by historical context and notes.
Charles joined Christie’s, South Kensington in 1995 and within two years was organising their bi-annual marine sales with the Picture Department. In 2007 he left to found Charles Miller Ltd with the first sale held in July 2008. By the fourth sale he had achieved a then world record for the ‘Spartiate’ Trafalgar flag and had handled the biggest model of his career, the 4 meter long cased model of the battleship Leviathan. Since then the company has achieved the world record prices for a builder’s model – the 4m long model of Mauretania loaned by Swan Hunter to the Science Museum (£162,000); a yachting figurehead (£64,000); a 1906 bronze of Nelson (£229,400); a portrait of Nelson (£248,000) amongst many others.
Charles is supported in his work by his Assistant, Oliver Salter with Emma and Clarissa job-sharing general admin and sale roles.
