A VERY RARE EARLY 19TH-CENTURY NAPOLEONIC FRENCH PRISONER-OF-WAR BONE AND WOOD ARCHITECTURAL MODEL OF A HOUSE, MADE AT THE NORMAN CROSS PRISON CAMP
with finely carved pediment, balustrade, rails etc, glazed windows and painted panelled back, mounted on a wooden board with chequerboard paper lining and contained within an early 19th-Century mahogany glazed display case. The model 8 x 8 x 6¼in. (20 x 20 x 16cm.); the case 12 x 12 x 10in. (30.5 x 30.5 x 25.5cm.)
Provenance: Kingston Rectory (about 15 miles from Norman Cross).
Other architectural models from Norman Cross can be seen in Peterborough Town Museum; It's not known if the model depicts the Old Rectory, although prisoners did accept commissions and it is not improbable.
