THE BELL FROM THE 'FLY' CLASS GUN BOAT H.M.S. SNAKEFLY, 1915
cast with single crown stock and inscribed per title with black-filled lettering (lacking clapper) -- 9½in. (24cm.) high

One of sixteen gun boats ordered in February and December 1915 from Yarrow for operations on the Tigris and Euphrates, they were originally designated 'China gunboats' to disguise their true destination. Based on earlier river craft, they were assembled, dismantled for shipping and re-erected at Abadan on the Persian Gulf. With a few exceptions, they were sold off locally in 1923.
