Ordered from Lorient in 1793 and launched as Cassard in 1795, she was renamed Dix-août in February 1798 and then Brave later the same year. She was captured by H.M.S. Donegal at the Battle of San Domingo on 6th February 1806, but sank enroute to Britain.
