R.Y. OSBORNE: A RARE PHOTOGRAPHIC SOUVENIR CUP AND SAUCER USING PRIVATE IMAGES TAKEN BY H.R.H. PRINCESS BEATRICE, CIRCA 1895

the cup depicting Princess Alexandra in company near the helm; the saucer depicting the Prince and Princess of Wales seated near a life ring inscribed OSBORNE, the reverse with maker's marks for Cauldon Ware of Mortlock's of Oxford Street (cup restored)

5½in. (14cm.) diameter

Queen Victoria's fifth and perhaps favourite child, Beatrice, unlike her siblings, was indulged as a child and grew to be a well-rounded and pleasant young woman. She was a keen amateur photographer and enjoyed presenting sets of photographic china to friends as souvenirs. The largest known collection of this type of material is in the Royal Collection, housed at Frogmore, with very little ever seen on the open market.
