A 16IN. TOMPION PLATE FROM THE DREADNOUGHT BATTLESHIP H.M.S. KING GEORGE V (1910)
cast in brass with a 'milled' edge -- 16in. (40.5cm.) diameter

Built at Portsmouth, displacing 23,000 tons and manned by a complement of 900 men, King George V was the name ship of a class of four, her sisters being Centurion, Audacious and Ajax. As part of the Royal Navy's visiting squadron to Kiel in June 1914, she was inspected by the Kaiser and held several receptions. Two years later at Jutland, she was the Flagship of the 2nd Battle Squadron. She was decommissioned in 1919, used as a training ship between 1923-26 and scrapped early under the terms of the 1922 Treaty of Washington in 1926.
