BRITISH SCHOOL, 19TH CENTURY
The Elder-Dempster passenger/cargo ship 'Kinsembo' underway

18 x 31¾in. (45.7 x 80.5cm.)

Built by Cunliffe & Dunlop at Inch Yard, Port Glasgow, and launched in 1876, she was sold in 1893 to Verdeau & Co. and renamed Maroc and again in 1903 to L'Aquitaine under the name Marie Thérèse. She was still flying their colours when, on 15th May 1907, she foundered sixty nautical miles off Toulon.
