A 19TH-CENTURY GEAR WHEEL CUTTING ENGINE
unsigned, heavily constructed in brass and steel, indexing plate pierced in concentric circles with steel guide, cutting wheel with belt drive attachment, turned wooden handles etc. -- 9½ x 12 x 8in. (24 x 30.5 x 20.3cm.)

Provenance: Phillips, London, 23rd March 1976.

This gear engine was used in the construction of the astrolabe in lot 242.
