A FIXED FOCUS SPYGLASS, PROBABLY DUTCH, CIRCA 1650
unsigned, constructed from two bone sections in the form of bamboo and joined via a central thread -- 3.7/8in. (9.8cm.) long

Lit: Louwmann & Zuidervaart: A Certain Instrument for Seeing Far, Wassemaar, 2013, p.35 & 150-1, where similar examples are described. An almost identical example was excavated in Amsterdam in 2011 and is on view at the Rijkelijkhuizen, who suggested this dating.
