AN UNOFFICIAL 15IN. TOMPION FROM H.M.S. WARSPITE, CIRCA 1915

cast in brass with a deeply moulded depiction of a woodpecker, rope border, the reverse punched 'RB 3', steel suspension hooks on plate -- 15in. (38cm.) diameter; together with a cap tally for Warspite; a fragment of shrapnel from the Battle of Jutland sealed in an envelope inscribed HMS Warspite / Two Fragments of / German Shell picked up / on the mess deck at the Battle / of Jutland & given me by / My Servant Brooks / AB; another envelope containing 'tea' inscribed HMS Warspite / Scapa Flow / 27th January 1919/ Guarding the / interned German / High Sea Fleet. / Sample of "Tea" taken from German / provision ship Richer. This was sent over / for the use of the German sailors in lieu / of tea. / B. Fairbairn / Commander; and a copy of 'Original Songs from the Time Machine', printed aboard Warspite in 1918.
