ADMIRAL LORD NELSON: A LOCK OF HAIR
a generous curl of typically fine pale hair, contained in a carved circular agate box with gold band and fragmentary enamel plaque reading 'N.... 05' -- 1¾in. (4.5cm.) diameter

This lock conforms very closely to other known examples of Nelson's late-period hair. It has also curled to the shape of the box indicating it has been there for a very long time. The box is thought to date from about 1800-1810 which fits the time frame very neatly and, had the plaque survived intact, was similar in form to that sold by Messrs Wooley & Wallis, 22nd January, 2011. It is well recorded that Emma Hamilton was given Nelson's hair among other effects.
