According to Roger Finch in his book The Pierhead Painters (Barrie & Jenkins 1983), Percival was 'one of the most skilful and prolific of the later Liverpool ship portraitists working in watercolour..'

Further to the catalogue description, the painting appears to be in fine overall condition - perhaps a little overall fading? but no sign of restoration or repair. Signature is clear. Frame later with hardboard back sealing picture within.
