A 19TH-CENTURY 'MERMAID'
of composite assembly including taxidermied fish and animal (?monkey) parts, mounted on a wooden stand within glazed case, the mermaid -- 12in. (30.5cm.) diameter; the case 15 x 21½in. (38 x 54.5cm.)

These extraordinary creations were apparently brought back from the Orient by sailors and are quite rare. The last example seen was sold by Messrs Christie's South Kensington, 8th June 2010 (sale 5732 lot 342, £7,500)

Condition Report
Looks good overall - suspension hole in top fin, mounted (?recently) in a fine-balance case with lifting front. No apparent loose parts etc.
