the barricoe coopered in oak with brass binding, wooden bung with shaped hasp locking plate and carry handles -- 24in. (61cm.) long; together with a copper stirrup rum pump -- 40in. (101.5cm.) high; copy Victualling Store receipts dated for 1969 and 1971

The last rum ration was issued on 31st July, 1970 ("Black Tot Day"), after which the traditional issuing accessories were sold off - in the case of this barricoe (pronounced "breaker") and pump, to a Lt. Cmdr. from H.M.S. Charybdis who retained them until now.
