A PLANTER MADE FROM THE TIMBER OF H.M.S. TERRIBLE (1895)
coopered in ovoid form with two brass bands and with provenance plaque attached inside -- 17in. (43cm.) diameter

A 'Powerful' Class protected cruiser of 14,200 tons, Terrible's principal claim to a stake in history was landing troops to relieve the Siege of Ladysmith in the Second Boer War between 1899-1900. Obsolete by World War One, she served as a troop transport. From 1920 until her break up in 1932 she was a training ship and renamed Fisgard III for the purpose.
