Built by Krupp Germania and intended for the Hamburg America line, the 8,736 ton cargo ship Steiermark was not completed until November 1939 and was absorbed into the German navy as an armed commerce raider. Renamed Kormoran in 1940, she was badly mauled by the gunfire of H.M.A.S. Sydney on the 19th November 1941 and was scuttled eleven days later. Her wreck was located in March 2008.
