AN ATTRACTIVE EARLY 19TH-CENTURY CARVED FRAGMENT, POSSIBLY FROM A NAVAL WARSHIP
finely carved in the form of a sea horse leaping over a scroll-form base, with scales extending behind from shoulders to tail, finely carved mane, remains of gesso and gilt covering, mounted on an ebonised base (later, wear and losses) -- overall measurements 12½ x 14in. (32 x 35.5cm.)
