AN EARLY 20TH-CENTURY SAILOR'S WOOL WORK PICTURE OF H.M.S. CALLIOPE AS A TRAINING SHIP
depicted under sail in a stylised sea with banner title -- 18 x 25in. (46 x 64cm.)

A transitional 'Calypso' class corvette of 1887, the Calliope was the last of its type to be fitted with sails. When her naval career came to an end in 1907 she served as a training ship until 1951 when sold for breaking.
