Built in 1903 by Chantiers de la Mediterranee for the Soc. Anon. de Vapeur Longs Courriers, Ville de Rouen registered 4,721 tons and measured 354.4 feet long with a 47.6 foot beam, drew a 27.3 foot draft and was powered by triple expansion engines. She was torpedoed and sunk in the Mediterranean by an unidentified submarine on the 18th July, 1916.

Condition Report
Large visible horizontal tear running from left hand side of canvas to mid quadrant, measuring approx. 14in ? Extensive craquelure throughout the canvas. Paint loss around the bridge of the steamship. ? cartwel ? One small area of paint loss to upper left hand corner of the canvas. Small areas of scuffing running along edges of stretcher. Ten small patches on the reverse of the canvas reinforcing small tears.
