A BRASS DOLPHIN-PATTERN BINNACLE BELIEVED RECOVERED FROM THE WRECK OF THE S.S. ATHEN (1893)
with three cast brass dolphins forming a tripod base for compass bowl and compass, complete with liquid-filled compass, unsigned, with 9in. card, mounted on circular brass-trim display base with brass provenance plaque -- 35in. (89cm.) high

Built by Richardson, Duck & Co. for the German firm of Freitas & Co, the 2200 ton Athen was carrying fuel oil when she collided with the S.S. Thor on 18th March 1906 about 10 miles south east of Portland Bill and sank in fifty metres of water.
