signed and inscribed in red-filled lettering on the dial keel EDWd MASSEY / Le Patentee / 17 Chadwell Street /LONDON E.C. 7002, five dials for feet and miles, float and rotator, contained in original fitted box with directions and trade label for W.F. Stanley, Holborn -- 28in. (71cm.) diameter

Edward Massey (II) and his son (III) seem to have only occupied this address between 1847-1852. The instrument was designed to measure the speed of tides or currents, and for surveys measuring lakes. This example appears unused.
