[M] A RARE INTERCOM TELEPHONE FROM THE H.M. ROYAL YACHT BRITANNIA, CIRCA 1954

A RARE INTERCOM TELEPHONE FROM THE H.M. ROYAL YACHT BRITANNIA, CIRCA 1954

the maple-veneered body with dial for extension '443', six coloured intercom switches for direct lines including HM CLERKS OFFICE; YEOMAN; MASTER OF HOUSEHOLD; and ROYAL SERVERY, ebonised plastic handset with curled cable and thick main connection cable -- 11in. (28cm.) wide

This model was used throughout the yacht in two colours - Her late Majesty preferred this lighter maple colour, while the late H.R.H. Duke of Edinburgh inclined towards a darker hue. Thus, this example comes from the late Queen's household aboard, and examples may be seen in the Officers' Wardroom and cabins as allocated. In keeping with all the Royal Palaces - where similar models were used - the communication infrastructure was rarely updated and this was in use from Britannia's acceptance in 1954 until her decommissioning in 1997.

Sold for £992
Estimated at £800 - £1,200

(inc. buyer's premium of 24%)
