A WELL-PRESENTED NAVY BOARD-STYLE MODEL OF THE CAPTURED AMERICAN PRIVATEER BEAVER'S PRIZE (1777)
modelled by H. Philips with open frames below painted main wale, open gun ports, semi-planked deck with fittings and cut-away masts, contained within a glazed display case. Overall measurements -- 15¾ x 31½in. (40 x 80cm.)

A 14-gun Philadelphia-built sloop name the Oliver Cromwell, she was captured by H.M.S. Beaver on the 18th May 1777 during the American War of Independence. On the 11th October 1780 she was wrecked in a hurricane off St. Lucia with only 17 of 110 crew surviving.
