Condition Report
The larger (9¼in. diameter) chronometer box, in the darker wood, is structurally sound with no splits, cracks etc. Scuffs and marks to top lid; top glass missing. No retaining catch to top lid (and no evidence for one). Second tier brass hinge and retaining arm. Lacks any interior fittings except key corner. With external drop handles. Internal diameter 8¼in.
Smaller chronometer box (in mahogany) is in structurally sound overall condition with no cracks or splits. Missing top glass under top lid; middle tier with brass retaining arm; has gimbal lock and one gimbal screw, and front key loose inside. Would suit a standard 4in. diameter instrument. With external drop handles. Internal diameter 6in.
Guard box is in structurally sound, overall condition. Retains interior padded lining, together with photocopied documentation for an instrument by Christie & Wilson. Retains securing hook and leather strap. Would suit a standard 8-9in. diameter chronometer box.
Octant box is in structurally overall good condition. One handle rest loose inside; missing one securing hook eye externally. Internal dimensions 11½ x 13½in. at widest point.
