a snuff box made of oak recovered from the wreck, with black oak hinged lid inset with copper plaque inscribed Royal George / Sunk 17.., the underside left unworked -- 3¼in. (8.3cm.) diameter; together with a small cast iron cannon barrel

The accidental capsizing of Royal George in Spithead harbour remains the Royal Navy's greatest peacetime disaster. Over 900 lives were lost and the ship remained a serious obstruction for over fifty years.
