manuscript on paper, 80 leaves, mostly written on the recto and verso, numerous signals, a few in red or blue, a finely drawn illustration of a windlass on last page, lacks a few leaves, a few tears, very lightly browned, pocket book with contemporary sheep covers (rather worn), London, circa 1800 -- 4¼ x 3 5/8in. (11 x 9.5cm); together with a loosely inserted little signal book containing 114 signals, many in red or blue, a few leaves a little defective, contemporary marbled wrappers

According to an inserted note, this signal book was used aboard H.M.S. Foudroyant, commanded for a while from 1798 by Lord Nelson.
