Thomas Williams entered the Navy as a midshipman in 1794 and enjoyed a lively career, attained the rank of Commander in 1815 and retired on half pay a year later. He just qualified for the Naval General Service Medal before he died in 1849, and his example had clasps for Nile and St. Domingo.
